Celebrating 125 Years of Community Banking
1901–2026
For 125 years, Peshtigo National Bank has stood beside the families, farmers, and small businesses that make Northeast Wisconsin home. What began in 1901 as a single brick building on the west bank of the Peshtigo River has grown into a local institution built on trust, service, and genuine community commitment.
Through changing times, new technologies, and generations of progress, one thing has never shifted: our purpose. We remain a hometown bank—locally owned, deeply rooted, and dedicated to the people who make our communities strong.
Where Our Story Begins
In early 1901, local leaders recognized a need that went beyond dollars and cents—they envisioned a bank built for their community. The Comptroller of the Currency approved the charter in January, and on February 4, 1901, Peshtigo National Bank officially opened its doors.
The first building, constructed by N.P. Pehrson for $3,200, stood proudly along the Peshtigo River. Inside, a Diebold safe and 24 safe-deposit boxes—purchased for $850—offered a level of security the town had never experienced before.
That same year, the bank recorded $7,111 in total cash. With $25,000 in capital stock, the foundation was set for something far bigger than anyone could have imagined.
The People Who Set the Groundwork
The bank’s earliest team was small but mighty:
- William Ellis, Jr., first President
- Arthur G. Fowler, Cashier
- Thomas Flynn, a recent Peshtigo High School graduate and the bank’s first bookkeeper
Their dedication laid the groundwork for generations of community banking to come.
Decades of Growth Through Changing Times
As the decades passed, the bank evolved right alongside the community it served:
1900s–1930s: Resilience & Recovery
Through early industrial growth and the challenges of the Great Depression, Peshtigo National Bank remained rooted—continuing to lend, support families, and stand steady during uncertain times.
1940s–1960s: Stability & Expansion
As the nation navigated war, economic growth, and modernization, the bank deepened its role in supporting agriculture, manufacturing, and home ownership across the region.
2000s–Today: Technology Meets Hometown Banking
This era brought new branches, stronger local partnerships, and generations of employees who shaped a lasting culture of service.
From online banking to mobile apps, our services continue to evolve—but the heart of the bank remains unchanged. Decisions are still made locally. Relationships still come first.
With branches now serving six communities across Northeast Wisconsin, Peshtigo National Bank continues to grow without losing the hometown feel that defines us.

A Message From Our President & CEO, Kelly M. Heroux
“This milestone isn’t about how long we’ve been here—it’s about who we’ve been here for. Our communities are the reason Peshtigo National Bank has stood strong for generations. We are humbled by the trust placed in us and grateful for every relationship that has shaped our journey. As we look toward the future, our commitment remains the same: to serve with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of hometown pride.”
